When looking at getting into BMXing, one question that will invariably be asked is how easy are BMX bikes to ride?
Ultimately, you should find them very easy to use. With one gear and no suspension they are easy to maintain and the shape and size of them makes them very easy to manoeuvre. If you get a racing BMX you should find that getting up a good speed is surprisingly easy for something so small. However a racing BMX, like other kinds of BMX bikes will be much less suitable to go long distances. But then that isn’t what they are designed for.
Whether you want to race them or practice stunts, starting off will be fairly easy. The real question is: ‘how easy is it to get good?’
The benefit is that you will have as much fun on the bike when starting out as you will when you are an expert. The main reason this is such a benefit is that to get to a very good standard will, like anything, take time and practice. However, unlike many pastimes that can be extremely frustrating should you not be able to do the things you want to do early on, the simple things you can achieve straight away will make it fun enough to ensure you are happy to keep pushing yourself, and therefore constantly improving.
Riding them is easy – they are versatile and simple to use, and therefore the basics can be learnt fairly quickly. From there, getting to the standard you want to be at is all about how much time and energy you put into it. Getting to the level you want to be at won’t happen over night, but the benefit of BMXing as a hobby is that you will enjoy and relish every moment of practicing until you reach that level.
