School lockers have always proved popular with students and teachers alike as they offer a secure way to lock away personal belongings and school books. With talk of budget cuts in the news almost everyday day however, is having storage lockers a luxury schools simply cannot afford anymore?

Like lockers for students, staff lockers are also important to a school. Having these in installed throughout the school building means the staff and pupils can move around to different classes and even go home for the day without having to worry that they will forget any important items the following day as they are already on the school premises. Lockers also provide a safe and secure place for valuable items such as mobile phones and money to be kept during school hours.

Although budgets need be cut, being able to offer a teacher or pupil a locker is one thing that should not be cut as it makes the school safer and keeps everyone more organised.

A locker also helps reduce the amount of weight a pupil has to carry around with them as they can store their books for the rest of the day in the locker and only bring the books they actually need to their current class with them. This will prevent them from developing muscle strain and even back pain.

These storage places may actually encourage pupils to interact better with others too as the area around their locker space usually becomes like a type of meeting point in the morning and at the end of the day.

As each pupil will usually have their own locker, they will also learn about respecting school property as they will need to keep the locker clean and tidy, especially when the dreaded locker inspection is looming.
